We will start from Piazza Università for an introduction to the origins and natural events that shaped the city of Etna.
We will continue to Piazza Duomo where we will meet the famous Liotru, the elephant symbol of Catania. We will discover curious connections between the animal and ancient myths of the land of Sicily; in the square we will also see the Cathedral and the town hall, both guardians of the past and present memory of our Patron Saint, Agatha.
Crossing the scenic Amenano fountain we will enjoy the impact with the lively and colorful Fish Market. The protagonists are you, who walking among the smells, colors and shouts of the vendors will collect, if you want, pieces of Sicily to take home.
From the profane to the sacred, we will leave the noisy market to reach the religious silence of Via Crociferi, the Sacred Way, where we will discover how thin threads tie us to that Catania that disappeared with the earthquake of 1693.
Hidden palaces, nestled in the traditional baroque, tell us how even a relatively small city like Catania can preserve the signs of the great historical changes that have affected Europe in the past centuries.
In connection with the city we are now ready to welcome with the right spirit the message of our Sicilian legends, immortalized in the street lamps of Piazza Università.
Our last stop will be the Roman Amphitheatre, this is where the medieval city ended, protected by mighty walls. The monument owes its uniqueness to the black lava stone.
We are made of the same substance as Etna.
We say goodbye knowing how much still remains to be discovered, in fact it will not be a goodbye but a see you later!
*Entrance to the sites is free but also depends on opening hours and Holy Mass times*
