Etna with ascent

In that stretch of the Ionian Sea, between Taormina and Catania, stands one of nature’s wonders: the infinite and majestic Etna.

Here the grandeur of that universe is renewed, manifested in its disturbing and fascinating expressions, the living mountain which, with its over 3340 metres, is the highest in Sicily and also the highest active volcano in Europe.

The versatility of the frequent reporting or deporting eruptions stimulates that suggestion deriving from the continuous transformation of the shape of the eruptive vents and their height.

Located in an area of over 59,000 hectares, known as Etna Park, it is one of the largest protected areas in Italy.

Listed among the wonders of the UNESCO World Heritage for its immense geological, scientific and cultural value, Mount Etna is one of the most significant Italian cultural and naturalistic treasures.

Steeped in history, spirits, superstitions, beliefs and consciences, it represents that real dream where matter plays a fundamental role within the Mediterranean system.

The magic of nature, the infinite becoming, mythology, superstition are renewed in this inevitable adventure towards the mouth of the living mountain: Etna, one of the only active volcanoes.

The start for the ascent from the southern side sees us at an altitude of 1923 m (Nicolosi-Rifugio Sapienza). From here, by means of a cable car or an off-road vehicle, you reach an altitude of 2500 m in a few minutes.

Once we reach an altitude of 2500 m, we proceed towards the summit on board special off-road vehicles (Unimog, Mercedes-Benz), driven, with unquestionable experience by drivers who with affable vocation allow us to reach the edge of the authorised areas, where we can admire the imposing summit craters and then abandon ourselves to the spatial vision of an enchanting panorama, significant of that eastern part of the island that embraces Calabria.
